NDP calls for commitment on Eglinton East LRT at Scarborough stop

SCARBOROUGH – Marit Stiles, Leader of the Official Opposition joined Deputy Leader and Shadow Minister for Public Transit, Doly Begum (Scarborough Southwest) are meeting with transit riders, operators, and community members to discuss the importance of reliable and safe public transit for Scarborough residents.

The Leader and Shadow Minister are calling for the Ford Government to commit to funding the proposed Eglinton East LRT:

“By connecting the subway line with the GO Transit network, this project will make sure Scarborough residents and commuters can get to where they need to go more quickly and easily,” said Stiles. “That’s less time on the road and more time to study, spend time with family, and do the things they care about.

Scarborough is a vibrant hub in our fastest growing city. Investing in its residents is an investment in Ontario’s economic growth and prosperity. It’s time to make this transformative infrastructure a reality.”

MPP Begum added, “Scarborough residents have suffered from a lack of transit options for far too long. The Eglinton East LRT is not just about transit – it's about equity. Our communities deserve safe, reliable ways to meet their loved ones, go to school, and get to work. The province must step up and not leave Scarborough behind."
